What?
Yummy Supper is a collection of simple, seasonal recipes that happen to be gluten free. Luckily, the world is crowded with a delicious array of ingredients!
I'm thrilled to be working on my first cookbook (read more about it here.)
Who?
I'm Erin, an unabashed home cook and Berkeley dweller who has always been obsessed with food. I believe that joy, freshness, and seasonal abundance are the magical combination that makes the best meals. Before I could stand up, I played in the pots and pans at my mom's feet while she made dinner. As soon as I could, I began cooking beside her and loved every bit of it. Planning, cooking, and eating a nourishing supper has made me happy as long as I can remember.
When?
Four years ago, we had to remove gluten from our kitchen when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. (We then learned that both of our kids are also gluten-intolerant.) Initially, the omnivore in me was devastated; but before long, this apparent limitation became a motivation to expand our cooking repertoire, become more creative in our approach to eating, and even grow our own food. By focusing on the freshest ingredients with simple preparation, we have found ourselves feeling anything but deprived - in fact we have never eaten so well. And our healthy bellies thank us too.
Where?
A deep passion for home-grown flavors led us to tear out our lawn and replace it with organic herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees. Our kids now wander the backyard, nibbling on fresh greens and eagerly choosing what veggie we should eat for dinner. Our recipes find inspiration in what is thriving in our own garden, that of a friend, at local farms, or even in the woods nearby.
Why?
I've enjoyed a lifelong love affair with cooking, but now meals - made from scratch - are a necessity at our house. A year after I was diagnosed, I started this blog as a place to share recipes ideas with friends, and talk food. I quickly found myself feeling completely inspired - devouring cookbooks, eagerly harvesting whatever happened to sprout in our backyard Berkeley garden, and taking countless photos along the way. Who would have guessed that a dietary restriction could bring such joy? Cooking doesn't have to be a chore, it's an accessible pleasure we can all have every day, gluten-free or not.
How?
Enough talk. Let's get cooking!
